At Castlepoint we strive to contribute to a more sustainable future including minimising waste, facilitating recycling, reducing emissions and our carbon footprint. As a result we recycle 69% of waste with 0% going to landfill with our recycling targets increasing year on year. We also ensure that we only use green energy and we have an on-going commitment to reduce our consumption year on year. We are changing our lighting in line with the car park rebuild to LED which are controlled by both photo cells, BMS controls and PIR sensors which means lights are only on full power when required and therefore reducing our consumption. We are also keen on ensuring Castlepoint is a biodiverse habitat for wildlife and support this by having bug hotels and nesting boxes across the site. We also ensure that we only use pollen rich flowers that are havens for insects, butterflies and bees.
Electric Vehicle charging
Castlepoint was the first of its kind to offer free Electric Vehicle charging for customers. Two “green” car park spaces with charging points on the upper deck car park outside Asda were installed as part of Castlepoint’s green profile and encourage environmental responsibility in the town. The free charging will be unlimited so that customers can top up their E.V. batteries whilst shopping. There will be additional charging bays including fast charge stations, as a result of its popularity with our customers once the car park work has been completed.Learn More
Sustainability is at the very core of our future strategy, here are the main directions in which our future projects will stretch.
By the end of 2021, we would like to achieve all Castlepoint service vehicles to be electrically powered. This will see a reduction in the use of fossil fuels, our carbon footprint and also vehicle related servicing.
We aim to provide information to all visitors about sustainable travel to and from Castlepoint.
Where possible, we will introduce environmentally friendly cleaning chemicals and we aim to reduce the use of single use materials such as paper towels, blue roll etc.
We plan to Introduce a bio-diversity site management plan including implementing bug hotels, nest boxes, pollen rich flowers and Hedgehog hibernation boxes onto site.
By end of 2021 we want to Introduce staff uniform made from recycled or environmentally friendly materials.
