SCHOOL PRAISED FOR FUN RUN PARTICIPATION

Castlepoint Shopping Centre

Local marathon runner, double Olympian and Commonwealth medallist Liz Yelling had the opportunity to praise the staff and pupils at the Baden Powell and St Peters School in Poole for being the “Most Active School” at the recent Castlepoint Sponsored Fun Run. At the school assembly, Liz accompanied by Race Director Steve Wardman and Castlepoint’s General Manager Peter Matthews presented the Year 4 and Year 5 teams their cup and medals, and £500 for sports equipment.

Liz Yelling told the 600 pupils that she was delighted to make the presentation as the school entered the highest number of runners at the event held at Bournemouth’s Littledown Centre. Over £1500 was raised for the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance.

Peter Matthews also congratulated one of the teachers Michael Peters who ran the 5k course in a time of 17:08. The assembly was told that plans were already in place to hold a second, larger fun run next year.

“We were delighted with the success of our first run held in the October sunshine which attracted participants from as far as Oxford,” said Liz Yelling. “We hope to encourage more schools in the region to become involved especially as we move nearer to the 2012 Olympic games.”
