FUN RUN RAISES £1500 FOR AIR AMBULANCE

The first Castlepoint Sponsored Fun Run with local marathon runner, double Olympian and Commonwealth medallist Liz Yelling attracted over 200 amateur runners at the event held at Bournemouth’s Littledown Centre. Over £1500 was raised for the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance by runners and supporters.

Fastest male runner was Simon Hayter from Poole Runners who completed the 5K Course in 16:08 minutes followed by Joe Price 16:59 and Michael Peters 17:08. The first woman to reach the finish was Jennifer McBain with a time of 18:23 followed by Clare Allen 19:10, and Lynette Etheridge 20:16. Peter Matthews, Castlepoint’s General Manager also ran and completed the course in a respectable time of 26:49.

In the morning on a shorter half mile course, Fred Primer from Kings Park School won first place in the Year 3 and under accompanied by an adult competition with a time of 5:50.

In the one mile races, George Baugniet from Castle Court won the Year 4 competition with 6:26 Year 5 competition was won by Blake Miller in 6:24, Year 6 first place went to Henry Baugniet from Castle Court with 5:56.

In the 1.5 mile competitions, Year 7 winner was Alexandra Phillips with 9:38. Year 8 winner was Jonathan Crisp in exactly 10:00.

Cups and medals were presented by the Mayor of Bournemouth, Cllr Beryl Baxter and Liz Yelling who congratulated all the participants for taking part in the fundraising event.

Peter Matthews said he was delighted that their first event had been so successful: “What a brilliant day! we were blessed with sunshine and we achieved what we set out to do with the fun run. We will now start to plan an even an even bigger event centred on the children’s races.”
